What is the WINiT Mentor Program?
The WINiT Mentor Program is the latest addition to an expanding line-up of our services to support the professional development of our members. It is an online tool – including a searchable database – that facilitates the establishment of mentoring relationships. It is user-driven, allowing registered Mentees to search among registered Mentors using specified criteria to find individuals whose experience and expertise match areas in which they wish to be mentored. Likewise, registered Mentors can search for and identify potential Mentees.
The WINiT Mentor Program will foster continuous support for career development and performance improvement amongst WINiT members and the travel, meeting, event and exhibition industries.
The WINiT Mentor Program will:
- Provide a forum for sharing experiences and best practices
- Promote communication and networking
- Increase the engagement and advancement of travel, meeting, event and exhibition industry professionals
What is the length of the Mentor/Mentee Relationships?
The WINiT Mentor program's suggested duration is 6 months from the start of your Mentor/Mentee relationship. We recommend that you agree on a schedule that works best for both of you. The most important thing is to discuss your mutual expectations about time and communication at the start of your relationship.
Can my Mentor/Mentee relationships be extended beyond 6 months?
Yes, you can continue the relationships through WINiT Mentor Program by contacting Dawn Repoli at email@example.com.
Is there a fee associated with using the WINiT Mentor Program?
The WINiT Mentor Program is a benefit of membership and is available only to WINiT members. There is no extra charge to use this resource.
How are Mentors and Mentees matched?
Members must first enroll as a Mentor, Mentee or both. During the enrollment process, members will select preferences for various demographics (including skills and industry category) to complete their personal profile.
A registered Mentee will visit the “Find a Mentor” page and enter their criteria to search for possible Mentors. The Mentee will click the names of the potential Mentors to view their profiles. Once the Mentee has chosen a Mentor, they will click on the Mentor badge (seen below the registered Mentor's profile picture) to request that person as their Mentor. An e-mail will be sent to the Mentor alerting them that they have been requested to be a Mentor. The Mentor will be able to accept or decline the request.

How much time will I need to invest as a Mentor/Mentee?
We recommend that Mentors and Mentees agree on a schedule that works best for both of you. The most important thing to discuss is your mutual expectations about time and communication at the start of your relationship. Recommended expectations:
- The WINiT Mentor Program's suggested duration is 6 months
- Minimum requirement of 1-2 hours per month for Mentor/Mentee discussions
- Monthly checkpoint emails with Dawn Repoli, Executive Director & COO of WINiT. These communications will provide articles and activities to facilitate the discussion between Mentor and Mentee and resources to ensure a successful partnership.
Keep in mind that participation doesn’t necessarily require large amounts of your time. Even brief phone calls or e-mail exchanges can make a big difference. The WINiT annual meeting also offers a convenient venue for getting together with your Mentees in person.
What are some helpful hints to improve the Mentor/Mentee interactions for the initial meeting?
- Share your background, values, and needs:
- Discuss career history, current responsibilities and interest outside of work
- Career ambition – where do you want to be in 2 – 5 years
- What are some of the values or attributes that you respect in relationships
- Identify your work style and habits
- Set goals and expectations – discuss skill gaps or development areas for your current job or future positions that you would like to improve on
- Plan and set the meeting agendas
- Be responsible and flexible
- Ask for feedback
Are mentoring connections confidential?
Yes, mentoring is an open dialogue in a confidential relationship where experiences, plans and ideas can be shared.
Who is eligible to participate in the WINiT Mentor Program?
Mentors: WINiT member with a minimum 10 years in the travel, meeting, event and exhibition industries
Mentee: WINiT member with a minimum 2 years in the travel, meeting, event and exhibition industries
Do mentoring connections between people in different locations work?
Yes, each Mentor/Mentee relationship depends on the individuals. During the matching process you will be asked to provide your preference.
How do I get training to be a Mentor or a Mentee?
Training sessions will be offered by the WINiT Mentor and Coaching Committee and will be communicated under separate cover.
